English Springer Spaniel
american

The ENGLISH SPRINGER SPANIEL is one of the few dogs that is just as nice as it looks. It is a loving, affectionate, good-tempered, and honest dog. A happy, playful, tail-wagging bundle of energy, it makes a great playmate for children. Although it adapts quite well to a quieter life in the city, the owner should not forget that the Springer Spaniel is still a good hunting dog, having the genes of one of the oldest English retrievers that was the progenitor of all English hunting spaniels. The English Springer loves water and retrieving, but cares more about people than anything else. This great attachment makes the English Springer easy to train. Ideally, it should have a yard to play in; if that is not feasible, it should at least be taken for long walks. Normally reserved with strangers, the English Springer can be trained to become a good watchdog. But left alone too much, it can easily develop some destructive habits.
