| The FRENCH BULLDOG has been appreciated as a wonderful companion dog since the end of the last century. The English claim that the French Bulldog is a miniature version of the much heavier English Bulldog that the English did not like and exported to France. The French, for their part, claim the breed is purely French. No matter what its nationality, if there is such a thing as a perfect apartment dog, the French Bulldog is it. It is a clean, pleasant dog that practically does not shed, is easy to train, has no bad habits, and requires very little exercise. The ideal home for a French Bulldog is a household of older people with neither children nor other pets whom the dog might consider rivals for affection. The French Bulldog is happiest if it is the focus of all attention and love. This does not mean that this breed should not be around children. French Bulldogs often live contentedly in average families and are generally quite good at adapting to most situations. They don't make much work, but they are not happy unless they can be close to their favorite person.
